Old Fitzgerald Prime Bourbon Review
Old Fitzgerald Prime Bourbon Review
Continuing with the Budget Bourbon list, we're still revealing those that competed but didn't earn a spot in the Top 5. One of those is this Old Fitzgerald Prime Bourbon out of Heaven Hill distillery. This is an a wheated bourbon mashbill once produced by the man himself, Pappy Van Winkle, while at Stitzel-Weller distillery. It is still a wheated mashbill today. This brand still produces a high quality, allocated product in the Old Fitz bottled-in-bond age stated pours but in this case, we're looking at the bottom shelfer.
Stats: NAS (around 4 yrs); 80 proof: 68% corn, 20% wheat, 12% malted barley; $12
Verdict: Honestly, I was very surprised by this one. It's not a bottled-in-bond like almost all of the others in the lineup, however, it's actually pretty damn good. You can definitely taste the beginnings of the wheated mashbill profile. Buttery, creamy, easy to drink. I could easily drink this neat and not complain. It also makes a fire cocktail as it brings some solid flavor to the table. It doesn't make the top 5, but I have no complaints from this. It drinks way above it's price point.
